Spring Cleaning Tips

The time has come, not to talk of shoes and ships and sealing wax, but rather to talk of spring cleaning. Yes, the time of year when the pollen is beginning to fall from the pines, flowers are beginning to bloom from the ground, and all of the winter paraphernalia needs to be put back into storage so that it can be conveniently brought out once again next year. It is a time of warm weather, sunshine, and children actively avoiding their spring cleaning chores. We’ve come up with a quick list of tips to help this year’s spring cleaning go by quickly, smoothly and with a little fun mixed in.

1. Clean small area/throw rugs. They’ve probably gathered a lot of dirt and debris over the cold winter months, and need to be cleaned beyond a good vacuum. If you have children with extra energy, give them the task of taking out the rugs to shake them of deep ground debris. Let them swing with all their might as long as they’re not doing anything to cause damage to themselves, their siblings or to the rugs. The dirt is coming off, and you don’t have to do it. 2. Clean the windows. While you’ve probably used glass cleaner on the inside of the windows, we’re guessing it may have been a while since you’ve given the outsides a thorough scrubbing. A mixture of ammonia and water applied to your windows by a mop or sponge-on-a-stick will get off most of the grime. Dry the windows with newspaper to get an extra shiny finish. 3. Organize your closets. We know this is one thing that you may have been dreading, but look at the bright side. This may be the perfect excuse to go through all of your existing clothing and apparel to make room for a few new trendy spring fashion items that may brighten up your mood. Out with the old, in with the new!

4. Change upholstery. If you have pillows or cushions with removable covers, keep the covers in season. Different patterned fabrics of varying colors can make a huge difference in the mood of your sitting areas. Fun fact: Kids like painting pillowcases. If you get a piece of canvas and allow your kid to paint it, they will love you for putting their art on display and you will have a unique decorative pillowcase for your outdoor or indoor furniture set.
