Shake Off The Winter Blues with a Full Spring Cleanse

Spring cleanse

The upcoming warmer months are a perfect opportunity to get rid of the old and usher in the new. Spring cleaning is something we’ve all heard of, but why stop with just cleansing your living space? Behold as we present to you several ways to do a full spring cleanse that will take care of not only your house but your mind, body, and soul!

Cleanse Your Diet

What we put in our bodies directly affects our mood, energy levels, and overall health. It is not unusual to consume more sugar and comfort foods during the colder winter months. And Spring is the perfect opportunity to cleanse and reset your eating habits.

  • Drink Hot Liquids

Drinking hot water, especially in the mornings, stimulates metabolism, promotes intestinal movement, and generally promotes all physiological processes. Hot beverages can also help clear out Kapha, the Ayurvedic term associated with cold temperatures and sour tastes.

  • Eat Bitter Foods

Bitter foods have cleansing functions for your blood and liver. They also help alleviate congestion and sluggishness in the gut. Vegetables like endives, radicchio, daikon radish, radish, and dandelion greens are great to consume raw or cooked and can help reset your digestion for spring.

  • Make Some Bone Broth

Bone broth has a high collagen content and is often used to help soothe the stomach. It is also full of essential nutrients and vitamins and can help seal the gut lining, alleviate “leaky gut” syndrome, and improve immune response and digestion. Bone broth is a great complement to any type of detox and can be made at home or purchased at the store.

Cleanse Your Body

Spring is a great time to focus on your body and give it the care it needs. Cleansing and regenerating can be aided by gentle movements, massages, and baths.

  • Move and Twist Your Body

Moving your body at the beginning of the day can help get your energy flowing. The stress hormone cortisol is at its highest level in the morning between 6-7:30 am. Walking or jumping on an exercise trampoline early in the morning can help flush out excess cortisol and help with weight loss and bloating.

Practicing simple twist poses can further aid in toxin elimination and support the adrenal system. Try sitting on the floor in the lotus position and gently twisting your upper body from the waist. Place your hands on your thighs or on the floor to give you more leverage, and slowly turn to the right, then to the left.

  • Take Epsom Salt Baths

Epsom salt helps detoxify the body and activates fluid movement. And nothing helps remove stagnation and encourage flexibility like a nice hot bath. Additionally, soaking in a warm tub can help relax both your muscles and mind and help you de-stress after a long day.

  • Get More Sleep

Sleep is always essential, but it is imperative when you are going through any cleansing process. Your body uses this time to regenerate, and your brain consolidates memories and prepares for the next day.

Sleep deprivation has been noted to cause memory and concentration issues. When you are ridding your body of toxins, it is doubly essential that you get enough sleep!

Revamp Your Living Space

Spring is the time to get rid of those old jeans you never wear, rearrange your furniture, and get rid of the clutter. Here are a few things you can do to revamp your living space.

  • Purge Unused Items

An easy way to get rid of unused items is to divide them into piles of “keep,” “toss,” and “donate.” Pick where to start. Quickly deciding on the spot what to save, toss or donate will save you months of staring at piles of clothing and other items that you are not sure you want to keep.

Alternatively, you may choose to put the items you want to hold on to in storage. To do this, you may rent out a self storage unit or hire a removals service provider to collect and store your items for you.

Eliminating clutter is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it also helps your brain health. When you are faced with messy living space daily, your mind notes that cleaning is an errand you need to do but are putting off. This creates hidden and unneeded stress and can make you irritable and unproductive.

  • Hire a Cleaning Service

The truth is that we all lead busy lives. You might want to keep your kitchen spotless and your living room clutter-free, but work and family responsibilities can understandably get in the way. Experts recommend allotting at least 15 minutes every day to cleaning your living space. But if you find yourself falling behind – don’t hesitate to reach out for extra help!
